I'll try to tackle some of the questions I've been asked in the past. If you don't see an answer to a question you have, feel free to reach out!
Typically, the answer is no. I would love to be able to match their pricing, but the reality is, large chain suppliers sell substandard products made from cheap materials that are not built to pass through generations.
I warranty the craftsmanship of my products for 1 calendar year after date of delivery/shipment. I do reserve to right to deny warranty depending on the situation of the concern. I do not pick up/re-deliver warrantied items.
Generally speaking, the timeline from point of order to delivery is about 10-12 weeks. Exceptions can be made for an expedition fee. The process leading up to that point can be as long or short as you need. I've worked with clients on design for months leading up to their purchase of an item.
Yes & No. I try to maintain a level of flexibility that allows me to manage consults and design time without having to charge for it. I do charge a $100 outside of normal hours fee for nights & weekends which can be applied to the commission of your piece should you choose to have me make your project
Yes. Once we agree on a design and price, I require a non-refundable 50% deposit to help secure materials needed for the build and put you into the schedule. The deposit is a commitment between you and I and will not be refunded under any circumstances.
This depends on how you want to look at it. I make timeless furniture that is designed to be passed down through generations. A larger one time purchase on an item that will last decades is more of an investment, opposed to buying more inexpensive items from a box store every few years.
Everywhere! I have relationships with many local sawmills and try to make all of my custom pieces with lumber from trees that were fallen locally by professional tree services. I do use more readily prepared stock lumber and plywood from box stores for cabinetry.
I am a 100% custom maker. My pieces are meant to be 1 of a kind pieces built exactly to what your vision is for your space. You choose the design, material, color, size, EVERYTHING and I make it happen! In certain circumstances I will purchase premade materials, like hairpin legs, in order to match your vision.
Yes and No. Playfully, I consider myself the "Paul JR of woodworking." I'll actually sit and look at a project as I'm making it thinking through the design as I build. I take what you give me in our consults and come up with a design. I can provide a very basic pencil drawing with dimensions if needed, but overall, I ask that you trust that I've captured your vision and will bring it to life.
I deliver locally for a nominal delivery fee and ship smaller items that can be sent via USPS. For larger household items, such as cabinets, I do not do installs. It has become more of a hinderance to do installs as they are very time consuming and prevent me from focusing on builds for other customers.
YES!! These projects are actually some of my favorite as I'm taking something that someone built decades before me and breathing new life into it!
I have a shop minimum of $100 for any service. I do things a little differently from other custom makers. I charge based on cost of goods as well as assumed hours on the build with variances on unforeseen circumstances (material pricing fluctuations, changes to design after agreement, longer than anticipated build time, etc...). This allows me to price myself competitively on some larger pieces. Generally speaking, the quoted price doesn't vary too far from the final price.
Yes, I keep small samples on hand and can stain or finish them for you to review once we get to that point.
I look forward to working with you!
